Our Story

How it all started...

On Easter Sunday morning in 1959, Pastor Norm Butler opened the doors of Calvary Church in a humble former laundromat on SE 14th Street in Grand Prairie, Texas. What began in a simple storefront was born from a God-given vision and a deep burden to reach people with the saving message of Jesus Christ. Pastor Butler believed that the Gospel was not only to be preached but also demonstrated through the power of the Holy Spirit.
From those early days, Calvary Church was established with a clear purpose: to impact Grand Prairie and extend the hope of Christ beyond its city limits. The church became a place where lives were transformed through Pentecostal worship, fervent prayer, and biblical teaching. Generations have since been touched by the ministry that began in that small building. Today, Calvary Church continues to carry forward the vision first embraced in 1959—proclaiming the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ in Pentecostal power to Grand Prairie and beyond.

Expanding the vision...

As Calvary Family Worship Center continued to grow, God expanded the vision far beyond its original beginnings. To better equip the congregation and accommodate an increasing ministry impact, the church relocated to provide greater opportunities for worship, discipleship, and outreach. This strategic growth positioned CFWC to serve more families and effectively minister to the needs of a changing community.
Today, the vision extends beyond Grand Prairie through a second campus in Meridian, Texas, reaching additional communities with the hope of the Gospel. CFWC is committed to raising disciples, strengthening churches, and advancing the Kingdom of God both locally and regionally. The church also partners with missionaries and evangelists around the world, helping carry the message of Jesus Christ across nations and cultures. Through these efforts, Calvary Family Worship Center continues to fulfill its mission of building hopeful lives and impacting the world for Christ.

Where we are headed...

The vision of Calvary Family Worship Center extends far beyond the physical walls of its campuses. From its earliest days, CFWC has been committed to taking the hope of Jesus Christ into homes, neighborhoods, workplaces, and communities. The church believes that the Gospel is for every person and every generation, regardless of background or circumstance.
Guided by God's love, CFWC intentionally reaches across ethnic, cultural, and social barriers to reflect the unity found in Christ. Its congregation is a diverse family of believers who worship, serve, and grow together. Through local outreach, global missions, and meaningful relationships, the church seeks to connect with people from all walks of life. As a result, the vision continues to impact society by sharing God's truth, demonstrating His love, and building hopeful lives throughout the world.
